Discord: error during Update or Installation - so go ahead
If there is a Problem when Updating to a new Version or when Installation, help manual, and a clean re-installation:
- Before you begin, close all instances of Discord. So in the task bar and stop Discord from the right-click menu.
- Check in the task Manager, whether the processes of Discord to run in the Background and close them if necessary. The Discord-web interface counts.
- Now you must remove the program files of Discord manually. Find those folders in the AppData section of Windows.
- Overall, you need to delete two folders. Perform the key combination [WINDOWS] + [R] and type "%appdata%" into the box and confirm with "OK" (see Screenshot). To open actually the hidden AppData folder directly.
- You are now searching for the sub-folder "Discord" and delete it. Exactly the same in the folder "%LocalAppData%".
- Download then in our Download area the latest Version and install it. It comes to errors, it helps sometimes, when you run the file by right-clicking as Administrator.

Discord, start in compatibility mode
Sometimes it can also be helpful when you start Discord via compatibility mode:
- The executable file, you need to start in the compatibility mode, click on the following path: "%LocalAppData%/Discord,/*version number*". You can reach him identical to the fourth point in the first paragraph.
- This approach is especially true for Windows 10 users. Try the compatibility mode for Windows 7 and 8.
