Synology: mail server setup - a guide

On your Synology NAS, you can set up a mail server and use. How exactly, we will show you in this practical tip.

Mail server in the Synology set up – so it goes

Proceed as follows to the mail server in the Synology quick and easy to set up.
  1. You can open on your Synology NAS, the "package center" and search for the "mail Server plus". Click on "Install" and wait for it to complete the Installation.
  2. Start the "mail Server plus" from the Desktop and select in the first step, "New E-Mail System". Confirm with "Next".
  3. In the field "E-Mail-System-Hostname" enter the domain name of the E-Mail. The domain name is the part after the "@" of the E-Mail. For example, you have the E-Mail address "abc@test.de" you need to enter here "test.de". Continue with "Next".
  4. Now, you will see an Overview of your data. If the data are correct, complete the setup with "Accept".
  5. In the next step, you need to log in to your Synology Account so that the mail server is activated. Pro Account you get a free license with up to five E-Mail accounts can create.
  6. So that you can retrieve your E-Mails on the NAS, you need to install the "package center" the "mail plus"clients. Enter in the "package center" in the search box "mail plus" and then click "Install".
  7. After Installation, you can log in either on the client or in the Browser via "mydiskstation/mail".
