BIOS warning sounds: The mean of the error messages

Each time you Start the computer, the BIOS performs a self-test and alert tones that cannot be displayed, the error is different. Depending on the manufacturer of the BIOS, the tones have different meanings. What you want to say these sounds, we will explain in this practical tip.

AMI-BIOS: The meaning of the warning tones

  • 1 x short: Everything is fine, pure tone.
  • 1 x long: error on the power supply. Check the power plug.
  • 1 x long + 1 x short: Indefinable error on the Motherboard.
  • 1 x long + 2 x short: Problem with the graphics card. Check the Position. Possibly there is a Defect.
  • 1 x long + 3 x short: an error in the Transmission between the Computer and the screen. Contacts or the screen cable is faulty.
  • 1 × long + 6 x short: keyboard Controller is defective.
  • 1 × long + 8 × short: video memory of the graphics card is faulty.
  • 1 × long + 9 × short: ROM error.
  • 2 × short: Parity could not be reset (RAM).
  • 3 × short: error in the lower memory block (RAM).
  • 3 × long: error in the keyboard Interface on the Motherboard.
  • 3 x short + 3× long + 3× short: RAM modules is defective.
  • 4 x short: System Timer failure.
  • 5 × short: CPU error (CPU).
  • 6 × short: No RAM memory installed.
  • 7 × short: interruption error in the CPU.
  • 8 × short: an error in the display memory of the graphics card.
  • 9 x short: CMOS or ROM check sum error. Possibly a Problem with the CMOS battery.
  • 10 × short: an error occurred while reading the CMOS.
  • 11 × in short: L2 Cache is defective.
  • Siren: Problem with to high temperature. Fan not working, voltage Problem, or individual components is defective.

Award BIOS

  • 1 x short: Everything is fine, pure tone.
  • 2 × short: Indefinable error. Under the circumstances, this will be displayed on the screen.
  • 1 × long: out of memory (RAM).
  • 1 x long + 1 x short: error on the Motherboard.
  • 1 × length + 2 × short: error with the graphics card.
  • 1 × long + 3 × short: an error occurred with the keyboard controller.
  • 1 x long + 3 x short: an error in the Transmission between the Computer and the screen. Contacts or the screen cable is faulty.
  • 3 × long: error in the keyboard Interface on the Motherboard.
  • 4 x length: error of the cooling fan temperature control.
  • Continuous tone-memory or video card is not recognized.
  • All the time short: an error in the power supply to the motherboard.
  • Repeated long-memory or video card is not recognized.
  • Siren: Problem with to high temperature. Fan not working, voltage Problem, or individual components is defective.
  • Irregular sound bug with the CPU voltage or CPU-ventilation.
  • 10-seconds Dauerpiep: failure of the CPU fan.

  • 1× 1× 3× short: error on Write to or read from the CMOS.
  • 1× 1× 4× short: CMOS or ROM check sum error. Possibly a Problem with the CMOS battery.
  • 1× 2× 1× short: Defective system timer.
  • 1× 2× 2× short: Faulty DMA Controller.
  • 1× 3× 1× short: Not exactly definable error on the Motherboard.
  • 2× short: memory defective or is not detected.
  • 3× 2× 4× short: Damaged keyboard controller.
  • 3× 3× 4× short: memory of the graphics card is defective.
  • 3× 4× 1× short: graphics card could not be initialized.
  • 3× 4× 2× short: graphics card Controller is defective.
  • 4× 2× 2× short: Incorrect Shutdown function.
  • 4× 3× 3× short: Defective Timer.
  • 4× 3× 4× short: real-time clock is broken.
  • 4× 4× 3× short: an error in the Co-processor.
