With Thunderbird, you can set up, among other things, read receipts for your emails. However, that doesn't always mean that the recipient has read the Mail actually. We will show you what you need to consider.

Confirmation of receipt in Thunderbird set up

If you want to know whether your message has actually arrived, proceed as follows:
  1. Open Thunderbird and write with a number of Account, an e-Mail.
  2. Before you send your message, click "options" -> "confirmation of receipt (MDN) request".
  3. Now you can send your message, as usual, by "Send" on the way.
  4. When the recipient opens the Mail (for example with Thunderbird), he can decide whether he sends you the confirmation of receipt or not (see Screenshot). The recipient could also click "Ignore" and the message including already read. Therefore, you cannot say with certainty whether you have read the message or not read.
