Many cameras can record images in RAW and JPG. We will tell you whether RAW or JPG is better suited for you.

RAW or JPG - a comparison

  • Compression: images in JPG Format are compressed automatically by the camera. In RAW Format, the images remain, as the Name suggests, in the raw, and thus an unprocessed state.
  • Compatibility: JPG photos can be viewed on any Computer with all programs. For editing RAW images, special Software is necessary.
  • Speed: By RAW images claims the camera properly. The images need some seconds until you are not processed, so that a quick snap is possible.
  • Edit: In the JPG Format settings such as contrast, saturation, noise reduction and sharpness directly. In RAW Format this doesn't happen, the picture remains largely untreated.
  • The contrasts in bright and dark areas of the RAW work images better, as they make, in contrast to the JPG of 16,384 instead of 256 brightness gradations is possible.

Conclusion: JPG or RAW?

JPG saves space and does most of the work for you. The RAW Format, however, better photo results, the quality is higher.
