In this practice tip to show you how you can open in case of emergency, the Word backup copy of a document. It is the Version before the last Save.

So you can open the backup copy in Word

So Word creates independently backup copies, you must have the before in the Word options enabled. Detailed instructions to find you here.
  1. To open a backup copy, click on the Office button and select "Open" (Shortcut [Ctrl]+[O]).
  2. Locate the folder in which you saved the Original file. In the same folder the copy is located.
  3. After Opening the folder, select the folder under "file type" "All files" and search for the name of your Original file.
  4. The backup copy has the same name but with the file extension ".wbk". In the column "file type" is also "Microsoft Word backup document" specified.
  5. You want to work with the backup copy, you should save it after Opening it under a new file name. Word creates the new document and then also a backup copy.
