Excel: menu bar disappeared - what to do?

The menu disappeared in Excel bar, can have two different causes. We show for both cases a suitable solution.

Menu bar disappeared in Excel is minimized?

In the best case, the menu bar is minimized only. So, you can show the menu again:
  1. Click the top left of the toolbar, the small arrow. In order to open the quick settings menu (see image). On the Mac, you find this about the Ellipse in the top right.
  2. The lowest point "minimize the ribbon" is enabled. With one click, you can show the toolbar again.

  1. Close all programs and check in the Taskmanager, whether the MS-Office-services are stopped completely.
  2. Then look for the file "com.microsoft.Excel.prefs.plist". It is usually located in the folder "Preferences" > "Office 2010" (or other Version).
  3. Drag the file to the Desktop and start Excel again.
  4. Excel now works, you can delete the file.
