Thunderbolt: Display and data interface
- The Thunderbolt port was made by Apple as a direct competitor to USB 3.0 port.
- The connector serves both as a Display but also as a data interface with a file transfer rate of up to 10Gbit/s.
- For comparison: The Thunderbolt port on a Mac has a twice as high data such as the USB 3.0 competition. However, the connection is very expensive and not as widely used as USB 2.0 or 3.0.
- With Thunderbolt you can connect external drives, Displays, cameras, Docking stations, adapters and other accessories with your Mac or MacBook.
