GPRS data transmission with 55 kBit/s
With GPRS (General Packet Radio Service), the transmission speed is raised. Thereby new usage options are possible:
- Via GPRS plug-in card for the Computer, you can move to the Internet - albeit slowly.
- GPRS is packet-oriented. Thus, for example, there is a higher failure safety.
- Used GPRS for MMS or WAP pages.
- The maximum data rate of GPRS is 55 kbit/s.
EDGE of the step on the way to UMTS
EDGE (Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution), has been expanded in Germany since 2006. It uses such as GPRS in the GSM network. By a new process, however, higher band widths.
- EDGE data transfer speeds of up to 220 kbit/s can be achieved.
- Also in rural areas, where there is no UMTS, get mobile Internet.
UMTS - the third Generation (3G)
By UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) has increased the transfer speed significantly:
- Transfer rates of up to 384 kbit/s can be achieved.
- Video telephony and other data-intensive content can be used.
- By extension, HSPA, you will get a maximum data transfer rate of up to 7.2 megabits/s.
LTE ultra-fast Surfing
With LTE (Long Term Evolution), you can go faster than a DSL connection to the Internet:
- Data rates of up to 100 MBit/s Advanced here, in the LTE-even up to 1 GBit/s.
- Since 2011, LTE in Germany is being expanded.
- Even in rural areas a good latency is possible. Thus, you can also play Online games.
As between UMTS and EDGE switching, you will learn in this practical tip. For more information on LTE read the LTE-ABC by.
