Fritzbox as a Repeater use
There are different ways a Fritzbox as a Repeater use:
- From Fritz OS 6: Under the current Firmware Version of the Fritzbox, it has simplified the Setting up of a repeater and is done in a few steps.
- Older models: you Have a somewhat older Fritzbox, is only supported by the WDS method. Here, the setup is somewhat more complicated. In this practical tip we will use Fritz OS 5.
- Note: The following instruction contains both the old and the new facility. Users of a newer Fritzbox with Fritz OS 6 have completed the setup from step 2. Users of an older Fritzbox need to perform all 4 points.

1. Introduction and Firmware Update
For the implementation of this project, you will need your already used Fritz! box (base station) and a further Fritzbox (Repeater). Since you have not used the second Fritzbox, probably, for some time, you should carry out for the time being, both devices have a Firmware Update. Connect alternately the Fritz boxes via a LAN or Wi - Fi connection to a Computer, or simultaneously on two Computer using a LAN connection.
- Open your Browser and open the user interface fritz.box.
- Log in with your password and click the links in the menu on the "System" (see picture).
- There you will find further below in the point "Firmware Update". Select this and click on the Button "To Firmware".
- If available, have the latest Firmware install. Do this for both of the Fritz boxes.

2. Fritzbox as a Repeater use - only for Fritz OS 6
This step can only be newer Fritz! box model with Fritz OS 6 performed. If you don't know whether your Fritzbox supports the new procedure a try, just follow the instructions. If this does not work you need to in the next paragraph to continue.
- Open the Web interface of fritz.box of the base station.
- Select the category "Wi-Fi" and "Repeater". Here you can activate the Option "base station" and click on the Button "Apply".
- Now open the Web interface of fritz.box of the repeater.
- Select the category "Wi-Fi" and "Repeater". Here you can activate the "Repeater" Option, open up the bottom for more options.
- Please scroll down and select the Wi-Fi network of your base station.
- You can now scroll to the very bottom and enter the network key for the Wi-Fi.
- Then click on the Button "Apply" to set up the Repeater.

2. Configuration of the Fritzbox as the base station
- Connect the base station over LAN or WLAN with your Computer.
- Open again the user interface fritz.box and log in with your password.
- Click the links in the menu on the "System" and select the very bottom of "view".
- Activate the box "Advanced view" and click on the Button "Apply".
- Now open the menu item "Wi-Fi", you will see the MAC address of the base station (see image). You will have to copy these as they will be needed later.
- You will then need to determine the radio channel of the base station. To do this, select the menu item "Wi-Fi" on "radio channel" (see image). There you will find the radio channel you should make a note of also.

3. Configuration of the Fritzbox as a Repeater
After you have performed this step, the base station continues to be on the fritz.box to be accessible, to the Repeater, you get now the IP "192.168.178.2".
- Now connect the Fritzbox to serve as a Repeater via LAN or WLAN with your Computer.
- Repeat steps 2. to 6. from the previous paragraph.
- You are at step 6. reached, to set the radio channel to the same as the base station used.
- Click in the menu under "Wi-Fi" on the "Repeater".
- You put the check in the "WDS repeater" and "Repeater" and enter in the box the MAC address of the base station, of which you have noted earlier.
- Below you will find five free fields, in which of the following IP addresses must be inserted: 192.168.178.2 / 255.255.255.0 / 192.168.178.1 / 192.168.178.1 / 192.168.178.1
- Then enter, if you haven't entered your Wi-Fi password and click on the Button "Apply".
4. Final configuration of the base station
- You can connect to the Fritzbox which serve as a base station over LAN or WLAN with your Computer.
- Click in the menu under "Wi-Fi" on the "Repeater".
- Put a check in the "WDS" and "base station" and enter the MAC address of the repeater you noted previously.
- Now, the configuration of the Fritz boxes as a Repeater and the base station is completed. You can configure four Fritz boxes as a Repeater.
