Windows Vista-enable hibernation via the command prompt
In the power options of Windows Vista, it is not possible to activate the hibernate mode. Instead, use the command prompt:
- Click on the Start Button in the task bar or alternatively, press the Windows key on your keyboard. Then write in the box "search the letters start to" follow "cmd" (without the quotation marks).
- Click with the right mouse button on the search result "cmd" and select "run As Administrator". The security query on the user account control, confirm with "Continue". It the command prompt opens.
- Now enter the command "powercfg-h on" (without the quotation marks) and confirm with the Enter key.

Vista-enable hibernation
A confirmation you do not receive. If the hibernation mode is successfully enabled, is generated on the system partition C:\ the file "hiberfil.sys". Useful keyboard shortcuts for Windows Vista, you can find here.
