Windows Vista: Can I delete the file hiberfil.sys ?

The file "hiberfil.sys" you can't delete under Windows Vista, since it is needed for the idle state of the computer. Do not use hibernate, but you can disable it and the allocated memory space.

The file "hiberfil.sys" disable

To disable the file "hiberfil.sys":
  1. Click on "Start".
  2. Type in the search box "search programs and files" the Text "cmd".
  3. Click with a right click on "cmd.exe" and select in the context menu "run As Administrator".
  4. Enter in the black Box (Windows Command Processor) the Text "powercfg-h off". Then press "Enter".
  5. Among the options next to "shut down" you will now see that the rest state is gone. The disk space was released.
