What is file pagefile.sys power?
As you probably know, your Computer has a memory. This is made up of the built-in RAM modules. Each Windows service, and each program accesses the memory, and used a part of it. You start many applications at the same time, it may be that there is insufficient memory for the processes. Then the file pagefile.sys is used. Pagefile.sys under Windows, the Name of the swap file. This uses a fixed size of the hard drive space to create virtual memory. Thanks to the virtual memory your programs will run even at full capacity of the working memory to continue.
Size of the paging file pagefile.sys change
The size of the paging file pagefile.sys you can set yourself. If you often start more complex programs, and your memory is not sufficient for it, is a larger swap file makes sense. Accordingly, you can reduce the size of the file pagefile.sys also, if you use, for example, only Office applications and an Internet browser. So you save storage space. However, you should change the size of the paging file only with the necessary expertise. Normally, it is managed automatically by the System.
- On the start menu, go to "control panel".
- Select the top-right of the view "category" and then click "System and security".
- You go in the menu "System".
- In the left column click "Advanced system settings".
- The sub-menu of the tab "Advanced" displays as the first item in the category "performance". Here you continue with the Button "settings".
- Again select the "Advanced" tab. The size of the paging file is under the Heading of "Virtual memory". By clicking on "Modify" you can edit this (see Screenshot). To do this, click on "custom size" and enter the desired value.
