Open command prompt: how to on Windows, 7-10

There are several ways to open the command prompt under Windows. We will show you some possibilities in Windows 10, 8, 7 and Vista.

Windows 8 & 10: open command prompt

The following instructions work under Windows 8 and 10 the fastest. Alternatively, the instructions in the next paragraph for Windows 7 and Vista works.
  1. Click with the right mouse left-button at the bottom of the screen on the Windows icon.
  2. Alternatively, you can press on your keyboard at the same time the keys [Windows] and [X].
  3. Now select in the list the "command prompt" or "command prompt (Administrator)".
  4. Note: In most cases, you only need the command prompt, type without the addition of "Administrator".
Windows 10: open CMD

Windows 7 & Vista: open command prompt

The following instructions work in a similar way also under 10 and Windows 8. A visible search bar, there is not here, however.
  1. Click the bottom left of the screen on the Windows icon to the start menu opens.
  2. Enter the command "cmd" in the search line. Then the "command prompt"will appear.
  3. Select the search result. By right clicking you can start the command prompt as Administrator.
