The taskbar can be moved under Windows, for example to place it on the right or top edge of the screen. Occasionally, however, the start bar sticks to another side of the screen, apparently by magic. Here you can find out how to move the Windows taskbar back to where it should be.

How to move Windows taskbar

In order to move the taskbar, you may have to detach it first.

  • Right-click on an empty part of the taskbar. Do not click any program icon that is displayed in the taskbar.
  • If "Lock the taskbar" is ticked, click this button to undock the taskbar.
  • Now click and hold the taskbar with the left mouse button and move to the edge where you want the Windows taskbar to be pinned. For example, simply move the mouse to the right and release the mouse button there. You can also click on the edge of the taskbar to enlarge it if you need more space for icons.
  • So that the taskbar stays there and cannot be accidentally moved, you can now repeat the first step and activate "Lock the taskbar" again.
