MBR with the Windows installation CD to repair
So that you can recover the MBR, you will need the Windows installation CD. You have this, do so.
- Insert your Windows 7/Vista installation CD.
- Set in the BIOS that your PC starts from the CD (usually the F12 key to press while booting).
- Restart the computer and then run the Windows recovery environment.
- Choose a Repair Center on the entry "repair your Computer".
- Under "system recovery options" find the "command prompt". Enter the command "bootrec.exe" and confirm the action with "Enter".
- Then enter in succession the two commands: "fixmbr c:" and "fixboot c:" (without the quotes) in the console.
- Then restart the PC.
