Error code 0xc0000005 on Windows installation: what you can do

In some cases, error code 0xc0000005 can also appear during Windows installation. There can be different reasons.

  1. The installation medium could be defective. Therefore, try to install Windows from another medium. For example, you can Install Windows on a USB stick .
  2. If this is unsuccessful, there are probably damaged partitions on the hard disk. To fix this, you need to delete the partitions first and then recreate them. Note that this will erase all data on the hard drive.
  3. Select the "Custom: install Windows only (for advanced users)" option for deleting the partitions during the installation process. All partitions on the hard disk will then be displayed.
  4. Then delete the partitions intended for Windows by clicking on the corresponding button.
  5. Then only the entry "Unallocated storage space on drive 0" is displayed in the overview. Click on the "New" button here.
  6. The maximum possible storage space is now calculated automatically. Confirm with "Apply".
  7. Next to the boot partition, another partition will be created that you select. Then click Next and continue the installation process.
If the error code pops up during Windows installation, corrupted partitions are probably to blame. You can delete and create a new one using the "Custom: install Windows only (for advanced users)" button. (Screenshot: Ferdinand Pönisch)
