Information about the unknown device with the device Manager heausfinden
The device Manager indicates an unknown device with a yellow question mark. In the properties of the device you will find the necessary information in order to identify it.
- Click in the device Manager the unknown device with the right mouse button. In the context menu select "properties".
- In the dialog window go to the tab "services". On the "Hardware IDs" in the drop down "property" you will see the necessary Information to the device.
- In the displayed character string, the areas of "VEN_xxx and DEV_xxx" of meaning: "VEN" are the Vendor, i.e. the vendor-ID. "DEV" is the Device, so the device ID.
- In the example Screenshot, the Vendor ID is "10EC", the Device ID would be here, "0269".

There are several sites on the Internet, with which you have a device by Vendor and Device-ID can identify with. In our example, we will use the website pcidatabase.com.
- Call in the Browser, the page "pcidatabase.com" on.
- Enter the determined Vendor ID in the search box and click "Search". In the next window, you will see the manufacturer.
- Since the manufacturer is not sufficient to identify a device, start the search on the Device ID. You will see in the next window a list of devices. You are the same as in the penultimate column of the Vendor-ID with your device, you can read in the second column of the device. In our case, it is "Realtek High Definition audio".
- With this Information, you can find now on the Internet for the appropriate driver.
