Good Hackers - Bad Hackers
Hackers generally dont have a good reputation. They are usually associated with criminal activities. There are also good hackers who use their skills to point out errors in computer systems.
- Good Hackers dont use their skills to cause damage. They act on the hacker ethic. Yes, they actually exist - and have been for quite a long time.
- In 1981 the Chaos Computer Club (CCC) was founded - the largest European hacker association. The members of the club not only conduct research in the field of technology, but also organize campaigns and events. Her activities include press releases, publications and policy advice. The club also operates anonymization services and provides means of communication.
- With the founding of the CCC, the hacker ethic from Steven Levys book " Hackers " was adopted and expanded. Anyone who follows these rules is considered a "good" hacker.
- However, this hacker ethic is no longer up to date. The development towards biohacking, 3D printers and Anonymous means that the code would have to be revised.
- Calls for a redesign are growing in the community. A well-known hacker, Jürgen Geuter alias "tante", has already worked out suggestions for this and elaborated and justified them on his page the-gay-bar.com . Among other things, he deals with the " Categorical Imperative " by Immanuel Kant.
