The Calibre database is corrupt - what to do?

Calibre is an important Tool to Manage your eBooks. Here's what you do to know if the Calibre database is corrupted.

Your Calibre database appears damaged - this you can do

Important to know is that your database in Calibre "library" means. In advance: The Calibre database can only be restored if you have previously backed up. The error message that your Calibre database is corrupted, usually means that another program has access to your Calibre library and it crashed. So go ahead with the repair:
  1. Make sure that the two Calibre files "metadata.db" and "metadata_db_prefs_backup.json" are not write-protected.
  2. You first boot your Computer again without having to launch the Calibre program.
  3. Check now if your books are in the Calibre database directory In your User directory should be the folder "Calibre library".
  4. You make a safety copy of this folder. In the directory you should see the file "metadata.db" in the "metadata.db.old" rename.
  5. Now start Calibre. The library should appear as an empty directory.
  6. Check if Calibre is accessing the correct directory. To do this, you have to click a small triangle on the library Icon and select the Option "switch to library..." to select. In the next window you should see now is the correct path. Otherwise, you need to set him down.
  7. You close the window again without, if everything is correct.
  8. Now you have to click the small triangle on the library Icon. This time, select the menu item "maintenance library".
  9. You are now in control of the "database restore" and confirm this with "Ok".
  10. Now the file "metadata is.db" restored, which can take some time. After that, everything should work normal again.
