macOS 10.14 Mojave - all about Apple's new operating system

On the developer conference WWDC Apple presented the new macOS 10.14 Mojave. What are the functions takes the operating system and what Changes they passed are allowed to do, we show you in this practical tip.

macOS 10.14 Mojave: All of the new features on the Desktop

The new macOS bears the name of the Mojave desert in the Western United States. Besides visual Changes, there are also some new features.
  • Since macOS Yosemite there is a Dark fashion. So far, this mode is veiled, only the Dock and the menu bar in a modern Black. Now the complete System, as well as all of Apple's to - and-party Apps third-party to appear in black unless the user wants it.
  • With "Dynamic Desktop" to fit the background image of the time of day. So far, in the Beta Version, only a compatible image. The sun is out, slowly, change the lighting conditions on the Desktop Background.
  • You can store multiple files individually to your Desktop, these are automatically sorted in Stacks on the right side of the screen. You move the mouse over the documents, again all displayed in full size.
  • The Finder now has a gallery view. So you can watch a preview for many file types. On the right side, you can find more Buttons for quick actions. If necessary, you can customize these Buttons individually.
  • You can create a Screenshot and select the image directly, you can edit it immediately and without any further detours.
  • Also, the App Store is heavily reworked. The Apple Apps are "News" and "Home" come from the iPhone to the Mac. Facetime now supports group Chats with up to 32 people.

Updates for security and privacy

  • Installed Apps can only access your camera and microphone if you have previously given permission to do so. Third-party Apps now need an explicit permission to mail or the messages App to access.
  • On websites you can often find the Like and Share Buttons. These Buttons can be used for Tracking. Safari blocks these Buttons, until you want to use them really.

macOS 10.14: Who gets the Update?

  • While the predecessor, High Sierra also older Macs from the year 2009, the support increased the requirements for Mojave strongly. Macs may not be older than built in the middle of 2012.
  • You are using a Mac Pro, may not be older than year 2010. Devices from the years 2010 to 2012 are supported only if you have a metal-capable graphics card.
