Optional glass in Gimp - so it works

The Problem with free set of glass lies in the transparency of the object. A simple cut is not enough here.
  1. Open the image in Gimp and set it free. For this purpose, the Lasso tool is the best. Are you with the Free objects in Gimp are not familiar with, you will find in this practical tip a little Tutorial.
  2. You have to put the object clean free, copy it using "edit" > "Copy" in the clipboard.
  3. Open the new Background as a new layer. The easiest way is via "file" > "open As layers".
  4. Create a new transparent layer and paste the copied glass from the clipboard using the menu "edit" > "Paste". The glass is inserted as a floating layer. Therefore, click with the right mouse button on the floating layer to open the context menu. Here you can select "to new layer".
  5. Duplicate this new layer with the optional glass. The lower of the two planes of Glass you left in the Normal mode in the layer window, reduce the opacity to about 50 %. At the top of the glass level, set the mode from "Normal" to "Multiply".
  6. Make sure that the upper glass is marked level and then navigate to "colors" > "curves". Here, it should be preset as a value channel. Drag now the curve is far to the upper left corner. You play a little with the curve, until you get a satisfactory result.
  7. Go back to the bottom of the glass level. The glass is still too dark, it needs to be brightened. To do this, open the menu "colors" and select "brightness/contrast". Slide the slider of the "brightness" to the right until a realistic brightness of the white glass is reached. Now the glass should appear bright, but the Background is realistic to Shine through.
  8. Tip: There is an alternative method of glasses in Gimp free can. This takes a little made longer, but a more realistic effect.
