These are the differences between Ubuntu LTS and Ubuntu STS
The most important difference between the two versions lies in the update: Ubuntu LTS for Ubuntu 12.04 for five years, regular Updates. Since Ubuntu 13.04 you get with the Short-Term-Support Version just nine months of software updates.
- The LTS Version is rare on the market. Only every two years, a new Version appears. In contrast, you can everything for half of the year with a new Ubuntu STS, such as Ubuntu 14.04 expect.
- You want to upgrade your operating system, you can upgrade LTS to the next LTS-version or the next STS Version. Ubuntu STS is compatible only with the next higher STS Upgrade.
- If you notice after some time that new hardware drivers for the Ubuntu-device are available, this in contrast to STS on Ubuntu LTS automatically.

For the user, Ubuntu LTS maintenance is easier. You will receive a longer period of time Updates, and your System remains quasi-automatically.
