Mac Quicktime Player to Screencast-recording use
With the free and Mac OS built-in "Quicktime Player", you can not only play Videos, but also Screencasts record. The latest Version of the program is blocked but a large part of your hard disk.
- Start the application and right click on the icon in the application Dock. With "New screen recording" you can record a high-resolution Screencast.
- In the options by clicking on the arrow in the window, you can record also the sound directly to the Video.
- Note: In newer versions of the Quicktime Player, you can't save video recordings directly to a external disk. Make sure you have enough free space on your internal hard drive. To Save the recorded Clips, you need double the space that the Video occupies actually.

VLC Player as a Screencast Tool
With the free "VLC Media Player", you can Windows, Mac, and Linux Screencasts record. The program runs very stable and also offers many Extras.
- To record, click "file" to "open capture device ..." and then select "recording". Here you can record from the "screen". Before you can adjust the resolution, frames per second, and an additional audio recording.
