Sunset with the right settings to photograph
A sunset optimally to photograph, you should use a camera with a fully manual setting possibilities, such as a mirror reflex camera.
- Use if possible a tripod. You will reach the best picture quality and can align the camera initially. We have a number of tripod models tested.
- Turn off the image stabilizer of the camera, as this is not needed on a tripod. Instead, the electronics might even provide for additional blurring in the image.
- As an ISO, you select the smallest possible value (usually 50 or 100). So the image is very low noise.
- You set the camera to manual mode to select aperture and shutter speed yourself.
- In order to obtain an end-to-end sharpness in the image, you should increase the aperture number. A value of f/8 or higher is optimal.
- Then, you set the exposure time so that the result meets your requirements. At best you can use the Live-View mode of the camera. Here, you can the shutter speed and make the change live on the screen.
- Tip: Most of the time it is to be exposed is sensible to have the image disappear. So the landscape is very dark, but the colors in the sky are made out optimally.
- Photography rule of thirds and areas you in the sky the greater part of the image. This is when the sun sets, most of them much more interesting than the landscape.
