Excel: Text to columns - this is how it works

You have copied Text into Excel, it is normally in a cell, and thus in a column. To be distributed the Text on several columns, for example, in the case of address data, the postal code and the place or of the and of the surname, to Excel provides you a convenient Tool with which you have done quickly.

So you quickly share the Text in multiple columns

To better illustrate the function "Text to columns" is written in the column A1 a few words, which we separate with a comma. In column A2, we note some of the words are separated by spaces. We then highlight the two cells.
  1. Click on the "data" tab, and select in the quick launch bar, the Button "Text to columns".
  2. In the menu "convert text to columns wizard," select "data type", select "delimited" and then click "next".
  3. In the "delimiters" select "comma" and "space", since we use both formats in our example. Then go to "next".
  4. Finally, select the range of cells. By default, it is set so that the column is started in the Text. You can, however, be entered also enter a different starting column, then the original text remains, therefore, A1 and A2, and furthermore once you have entered the column.
  5. Click on "finish" split the Text in the various cells.
