A drop-down list in Excel is it worth it to create when you want to enter in a field, only the predefined values. As a result, you need to write the values again, but simply select from the list.

Before you can create a drop-down list, you might need to enable the Tab "developer tools". You can set it as follows:

1. Click on the top left Tab "file".
2. Links in the side bar, click on "options". In older versions of Excel (such as Excel 2007) you can reach the options via the ball-shaped home icon in the top left, also the path to the developer tools (cf. point 4) is slightly different.
3. In the new window, on the left, select the entry "customize the ribbon".
4. On the right of the page you are looking for the term "developer tools" and put the check mark in the box to the left.
5. Confirm the Changes with "OK".

Drop-down list in Excel create

Now you can create the drop-down list. Simply follow these instructions:

1. Click on the Tab "developer tools".
2. Click in the section "controls" on the Button "Insert".
3. In the drop-down menu, select the second icon from the left above, under the section "form controls".
4. With the mouse, you draw the drop-down list directly in the Excel table.

Now you have a drop-down list, but still no entries. In the example Screenshot, the list would take up all of the entries in the cells A1 to A3. On the Whole, they would consist of eight entries. To determine this, follow these steps:

1. Click with the right mouse button on the drop-down list and choose "format control".
2. Now click on the icon to the right of the input line for the Option "input area".
3. Now drag a range in the Excel table where the values should be.
4. Press the Enter key to confirm the input.
5. Set the number of rows of the list, and close with "OK".
