OS X Mavericks: side of the Finder toolbar customize window
The sidebar in the Finder, you can equip it with useful elements, such as folders and devices-links:
- Restart the Finder by clicking on the icon in your Dock.
- Then, click the Apple icon bar, click "Finder" and then on "settings ...".
- Here you choose the tab "sidebar".
- Now you can see various elements. Tick the respective box to specify, whether, for example, the folder "Downloads" or the hard disks in the sidebar should be displayed.

Background of the Finder window, change
Also the Background of your Finder window, you can customize individually. The menu you can find in the Apple toolbar:
- Open your Finder and click on view > "As icons".
- Now re-select "presentations" and then click "show view options".
- Below you will find three different options: The Background of your Finder, you can optionally white, colored or with a photo provided.
