OS X Mavericks: compress files

Under OS X Mavericks, you can compress your files and decompress. This is useful if the space on your hard disk is running out and you want to re-create the space. In our practice tip, you will learn how to compress on Mac OS X Mavericks files.

Files under OS X Mavericks compress

Under Mavericks a function for the compression of files is immediately available. You can use these to create Zip archives and to provide for more storage space on your hard drive.
  1. Navigate to the desired folder or file to be compressed.
  2. Then click with the right mouse button on the file to open the context menu. Multiple files you can compress at the same time. In this practice tip , you will learn how to right-click on your Macbook Touchpad to activate.
  3. In the context menu, then select the item "compress" (See image). Now a compressed file with the extension will be ".zip" created on your Mac.
  4. If you want to decompress the file, simply right-click on the respective file.
