OS X Mavericks: Airplay audio output from the Finder menu, switch bar

In OS X Mavericks, you can change the Airplay audio output easily in the Finder menu bar. We will show you how to do it.

  1. You hold the key [Alt] pressed and click on the speaker icon to the right of the menu bar.
  2. Under "output device" box in your desired Airplay-audio-output-device.
  3. The speaker icon should not be in your menu bar, you need to enable it first: Open the "system settings".
  4. Click on "sound" and put a check in "show volume in menu bar". Then, run the first two steps again.

restart the airport express and then i work. My sound in the finder doesnt show the options to change the output, i have to go to the preferences each time. Any workaround there?

What kind of reset? I m not seeing my Airport Express in the menu bar either. It s there in iTunes, and AirFoil.

Whenever I click on the option in Sound Preferences, it reverts back to the internal speakers option. Any reason for this?

I tried the streaming as it was described here but it doesn?t work. I have mountain lion and when I click option and sound I can actually see my airport express station but for some reason I cannot select it.
