To enable the text-to-speech-function in Mail:
  1. Launch "Mail" in your Dock.
  2. Select any E-Mail and open it.
  3. Then click in the system bar at the top on "edit" and on "language issue". Select this point "start narrator".
  4. If there is only a certain range of text to be read aloud, highlight it and then click again on edit > speech > "start speaking".
  5. If the voice output is completed, click "edit" > "speech" > "stop speaking".

To activate a German voice, you can launch the system settings:
  1. Here, select "dictation & speech" and click on the tab "speech".
  2. Click on the drop-down menu, voice in addition to "System" and select "Customize ...". Under the heading of "English" you can now opt for the Download a German voice.
