HEIF: a New image format in iOS 11
- The iPhone 7 and 7 Plus saves with iOS 11 images in a new Format: HEIF.
- HEIF stands for "High Efficiency Image File Format". It is intended to replace the aging JPEG Format.
- The Format offers a better compression of images with a constant quality. The image files are so small. This saves storage space and the images are faster to send or copy.
- In a HEIF-file not only the image can also be used to store data, but also Text and audio tracks. Thus the Format is suitable for video and Virtual Reality applications.
