Importance of 1337 – Leetspeak among gamers
In the following, we will explain to you, what does the number 1337, and what means this exactly:
- This is the so-called "Leetspeak", derived from the English "Elite".
- The communication in the Chat is mostly with Numbers, and occasionally special characters. It should add to the Chat and the language of the text more style.
- Users of Leetspeak want to stand out from the mass and with the use of show that you are something Better and different than the other players.
- Thus, the number 1337 for "Leet", i.e. "Elite, for example,". You need to rotate the number on the head, to be able to read. The 7 represents the letter "L".
- The Leetspeak goes back to the first times in Counter Strike. There the language was used to encrypt them in front of the opponents and to keep it a secret.
- In many cases, it is used only to work around an expression filter in the Chat and so, for example, swear words to send, or the like.
- Besides using it in Games, the Leetspeak is also used for the protection against interception, or to bypass Spam-Filters.
- In the transmission logo of the ZDF, the Leetspeak is used. There, the "2" in the beginning, the reads depending on how you have the Logo, either "2DF" or "ZDF" is called.
- Wherein the "Z" for "second" and, thus, both is correct.
