Stan Smith from Adidas - all about the name giver of the shoes
- For the first Time, the Stan Smith, Adidas shoes came in the year 1965 on the market, at that time still under the name "Adidas Robert Haillet", named after the French tennis player. This has, however, announced his retirement from Tennis in 1971, and Adidas had to look elsewhere.
- To be on the American market, the German company was looking for a US athlete, whose Name could be use for the new Shoe model. The American tennis player Stan Smith accepted the offer.
- In the same year, Stan Smith won the U.S. Open and a year later, he conquered the first place in Wimbledon, the greatest tennis tournament in the world and gave the "adidas Stan Smith" this worldwide recognition.
- Stan Smith comes from the state of California and has won 37 tournaments as single player, and 54 in doubles. In 1972, he was number 1 in the world rankings.
- Since 1985, he is in retirement and is elected two years later, in the International Tennis Hall of Fame. He first worked as a coach for the American tennis Association, USTA, and later founded the Tennis Academy, "Smith Stearns Tennis Academy" with Billy Stearns.
