Set-Top Box: What is it?
- In the case of a Set-Top Box is a device that expands your television to some functions. Set-Top boxes are usually quite small and can be connected directly to the TV.
- The term Set-Top Box, you can translate it with "add-on device". Only in combination with TV, the devices can be used. A Set-Top Box is similar to a Computer: with a screen you can use the device.
- There are different types of Set-Top boxes. Among other things, also a DVD Player and a game console are referred to as Set-Top boxes. Talk currently of Set-Top-boxes, are mostly devices such as Apple TV or the Amazon Fire TV is meant to be.

Apple TV and Fire TV: What can boxes the Set-Top?
- Set-Top boxes such as Apple TV and Amazon Fire TV are both connected via HDMI cable to the TV. Via LAN or Wi-Fi then make a connection to the Internet. The devices are about as big as the palm of the hand, however, large bars:
- The Set-Top-boxes behave similarly to Smartphones. A small remote control, you can start on the boxes with various Apps and use them.
- Mainly, it can play movies and TV shows to stream, and music. Depending on the device, a wide variety of content from your Smartphone or Tablet via the Set-Top Box to the TV.
- Download for example the ZDF App, you can browse it on your Amazon Fire TV in the ZDF-Mediathek, and past shows play them on your TV. Also smaller games you can gamble on the big screen.
