Tips for the purchase of the DSRL microphone
DSLRs are also great for movies, only the built-in microphones are almost always faulty. With a good external microphone, you can improve your tone mostly, at least if you observe the following tips:
- Microphones in the directional characteristics omnidirectional, cardioid, Mace, and Eight, as well as some intermediate forms such as super-cardioid. A ball-in microphone picks up in all directions, a kidney, preferably, the sound coming from the front. For a DSLR microphone a kidney or a lobe is therefore usually only on the actors and interview partners. We will explain the differences between the microphone types in Detail in a separate article.
- Pay attention to the matching connector: most DSLRs only have 3.5 mm Jack connectors. Your microphone should be best closed with adapters to the camera and the cable is short. So avoid heavy around the shock end of the cable, which produce noises and the connector to mechanical stress.
- Microphones for DSLRs there are two options: you can buy a microphone that is directly mounted on the flash Shoe of the camera so you can have the Hand at the movies. Here, you should use a kidney or Mace-microphone. You want to hold the microphone for an Interview in Hand, take a ball, Eight or kidney-in microphone.
- You have to decouple the microphone so vibrations and noise are transferred by shaking. So you still need a "spider" made of rubber, in which the microphone is suspended (if this is not included in the accessories).
- Many microphones need a power supply, most DSLR microphones have built-in a battery. Some DSLR cameras provide the microphones, but also through the connection cable. However, it must be the microphone also suitable. A spare battery is a Must also.
- You definitely need a good wind protection for your microphone. When you use Free movies, you should get a so-called "Dead cat" ("Deadcat"). This is a fluffy windshield that looks like fur. So you avoid wind noise on the best. But also in closed spaces, you should use a protection made of foam.
- You prefer microphones with adjustable sensitivity. So you can adjust your microphone to the correct volume.
