Good Alternatives to the map service "Google Maps" are not easy to find - especially if you want to use it offline. We present three successful Offline maps Apps for Android and iOS.

Well-known Maps-Alternative: "City Maps 2Go"

One of the best known sources for Offline maps City Maps 2Go is "". This App allows you to use the map material of more than 6700 cities on your Smartphone to download.
  • Due to the Offline use, no Roaming charges for Google Maps may apply would. You can also Wikipedia-the article, or in selected cities throughout the guide for your Region.
  • Under Android you must currently pay nothing - unless you want the Offline maps, without advertising use or with in-depth travel guides: The costs 6.99 euros via In-App purchase. iOSusers, however, pay directly to the Download 9,99 Euro (at the time of testing).
City Maps 2Go Offline maps

"Maps.me" for Android and iOS

With Maps.me can you maps from all over the world on your Smartphone and always on-the-go retrieve - there is enough free storage space provided.
  • The cards, convincing usually with many Details, the "Google Maps" has not. In addition, so-called "Points of Interest to show" that you have landmarks or other interesting places.

  • In the Navigation you can even select a 3D view. The looks on a Full HD Display especially nice.
  • Since the App is based on "OpenStreetMap", it may be that some of the map sections are out of date. Updates don't come as quickly as in the case of "Google Maps", should, however, be done also here.
  • Both for Android and for iOS this App is available for free. On iOS, you must download, however, for each country a separate App. Here you will find, for example, Apps for Germany, South Africa, Australia and new Zealand as well as Mexico.
