If Google Maps is causing problems, or the necessary resources consumed, you can uninstall the App if you have rooted your Smartphone. Starting with Android 4.0 you can disable Google Maps but even without Root rights, on the settings menu. Both of the options you will find in this practical tip.

Google Maps is one of the so-called System-Apps is pre-installed on the device and is part of the operating system. Without Root access, the App can therefore only disable:
  1. Open the "settings" on your Smartphone.
  2. Tap the "Apps" and swipe in the next menu to the left to display all Apps.
  3. Here you can select "Maps" and tap on the button "Disable". Google Maps is now hidden on your device and all related data will be deleted.
  4. On the App Overview, you can activate the Google Maps again: Scroll up to the end, from there you can select Google Maps, and tap on "Activate".

You have a rooted Smartphone, you will have extended access to the System and thus also on the pre-installed Apps. Works best the Uninstall process with "Root Uninstaller":
  1. You install the App on your Smartphone.
  2. Start a "Root Uninstaller" and put a hook behind "Maps".
  3. Tap the button "Uninstall Selected Apps" and confirm the next window with "OK". Google Maps will be removed from your phone.
