Android Auto is no longer available
Android Auto has no longer been available as an app since June 2022. The function can only be used via the displays of cars that are already connected.
Google alternatively offers a dedicated driving mode as part of Google Maps. This so-called “Google Assistant Driving Mode” offers similar functions to those previously available with Android Auto.
Other alternatives are:
- AutoMate: AutoMate provides you with important information about the traffic situation and helps you navigate.
- AutoZen: Within the AutoZen application, you can execute voice commands, navigate, control music and answer calls.
- Waze: Waze is a very well-rated alternative to Android Auto. It offers you valuable updates on traffic conditions, traffic jams and police locations.
Android Auto doesnt work - that could be the problem
First, make sure your smartphone is running on Android 5 or higher . For optimal performance, Google recommends using Android 6 or higher. From Android 10 onwards, Android Auto is even pre-installed and is started immediately after a successful connection.
- If these measures are unsuccessful, you should contact your car dealer. This will help you solve the problem and can also fix any problems with the car.
- Also, your car must be compatible with Android Auto. You can ask your car dealer or read your car manual to find out whether this is actually the case.
- Check if Android Auto is activated in your infotainment system. In some cars this feature can be turned on and off.
- Another important point is the USB cable. It is best to use the included cable. In any case, make sure that the USB cable you use is suitable for data transfer.
- Cheap USB cables are often only suitable for charging your smartphone. They are unusable for data transfer because the fibers for data transmission were omitted for cost reasons.
- You can now also connect your smartphone wirelessly to Android Auto. Therefore, make sure that your smartphone Bluetooth works and that it is switched on.
- If you have already used Android Auto with another vehicle, your smartphone may refuse to connect to unknown cars.
- To change this, open the Android Auto app, click the menu icon, then "Settings" and "connected vehicles". Now you can view all accepted and rejected cars and make appropriate changes.
