Problems with the Windows Installer can be caused by viruses or incorrect registry entries. To fix these errors, follow these steps:

  1. The Windows Installer may be disabled or corrupted by a virus. Run a virus scan with at least one up-to-date anti-virus program .
  2. Also, run an online virus scan with Bitdefender or ESET .
  3. If a virus scanner has found what you are looking for, remove the virus and infected files.
  4. Navigate to "C:WINDOWSsystem32" and locate the "msiexec.exe" file. If this file is 0 bytes, delete it.
  5. Reinstall the Windows Installer .

This guide applies to Windows 7. In other versions of Windows, the names and Control Panel items are slightly different. If you need it regularly, you can create the Control Panel as a desktop shortcut .
