Windows 8: tips for the new Power User menu

The Power User menu in Windows 8 provides, as the Name suggests, a variety of features for Advanced users for fast retrieval. Many of them, however, are also useful for beginners.

To open the menu, you need to either run the mouse to the lower left corner of the screen and right click to make, or the keys "Windows" and "X" button. Then, a context menu opens in which you have several options.
  • The menu is divided into three groups (see picture). At the very bottom you will find the item "Desktop", which you can reach simply always the Desktop.
  • In the middle group, you will find several services and functions that are used by almost every Windows user more often. So you get on the menu, a quick access to the functions. Here you will find the Task Manager, control panel, Explorer, search, and for Advanced users, the Perform functions.
  • Some functions, however, much faster key combinations to invoke. The task Manager using "Ctrl" + "shift" + "Esc", the Explorer via "Windows" and "E" and the Run-function "Windows" and "R" to open.can
  • The third category, you get mostly display and diagnostic tools for advanced users (see image). So it can be checked by means of disk management, the hard disk or the command prompt deep into the System to be looked at. All of these functions can be accessed through the control panel, so it is simply faster.
  • Still interesting for beginners, the "System" under which you all information about your Computer and Windows System, as well as the mobility center. In this, you can simultaneously monitor brightness, volume, battery mode, monitor the connection and synchronization to your Laptop.

Programs and services to the Power User menu add

  • Open Windows Explorer by pressing simultaneously the keys "Windows" and "E".
  • Enter the top in the navigation bar the following path and then click "Enter". The path "XXX" must be replaced by your user name: C:\Users\XXX\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\WinX
  • Here you will find the folder Group1 to 3. From these, you can now delete to request certain links, or to create a new folder Called Group 4. Drag then any of the links in the folder.
