Protected Windows system files

By protected operating system files under Windows, you can make Changes to the operating system. So you can access the Hosts file under c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc as soon as the protected Windows system files are not hidden.

  1. Open the Windows Explorer by going to the "Computer" from the Windows start menu.

In Windows 8, you proceed quite similar to as described above. Only the way how you come to the folder options menu is different:
  1. You can open the Charms menu in Windows 8 and click on "Search".
  2. As the search option, select "settings" and search for "folder options".
  3. The search hits will lead you to the folder options menu; there, you take the same setting as above, under point 5 for Win7 described.
