Windows 7: swap file change
Lay people should change the size of the paging file only when it is absolutely necessary.
- Click the bottom left of the screen to the Windows Button so the start menu opens.
- Select on the right side of the control panel.
- At the top, click the "System and security" and then on "System".
- On the left of the page, you can find as the lowest function in the "Advanced system settings". Click on this and confirm the safety query with a click on "Yes".
- It is a new window in which you click under "performance" click the Button "settings" opens.
- In the next window, select the "Advanced" tab and click on the Button "Change".
- Now you are in the settings of the virtual memory. Remove the top of the hook, and activate the menu item "user defined size". So, you can configure the paging file.
- You did not get the message that the virtual memory is not sufficient, you should be the minimum and maximum value, are shown, respectively, under - and overshoots (see image).
- Then close all three Windows by clicking "OK", the settings will be saved. You have reduced the size of the paging file required, where appropriate, to restart. In the case of enlargements, this is usually not necessary.
