Completely uninstall Skype - Heres how

Completely uninstalling Skype is possible in a few steps. It is also important that the files and registry entries that remain after the uninstallation are deleted. We will tell you how to do this and what you need to consider here.

Uninstall Skype: in Windows 8 and older versions

In older Windows versions like Windows 7, uninstalling Skype is possible via the Control Panel.

  1. Open the Control Panel and select the "Programs and Features" entry in the window or "Uninstall programs" in the category view.
  2. Find the "Skype" entry and right-click on it.
  3. Select "Uninstall" and follow the wizards instructions.

Delete leftover data from Skype: How to proceed

After uninstalling, there are still some files from Skype on the computer. In order to completely remove Skype, you need to delete the corresponding files and registry entries. The procedure is the same for all Windows versions.

  1. Open Explorer, click on "This PC" in the left bar and select "Local Disk (C:)".
  2. Open the "ProgramData" folder on your computers hard drive and delete the "Skype" folder.
  3. Now open the command prompt with [Windows key] + [R], enter "regedit" and confirm with "OK".
  4. Click "Edit" in the top left and select "Search". Type "Skype" in the search box and click Find Next.
  5. Delete all Skype entries by right-clicking on them and choosing "Delete".
To wipe leftover data from Skype, open Registry Editor and search for "Skype" there. All entries that appear can be removed with a right click and "Delete". Screenshot: Ferdinand Pönisch
