BIOS: Boot order change - how it works

You want to start Windows, for example, from a CD or USB-Stick, you'll need to change the Boot order in the BIOS. We will show you how to do it.

Boot order in the BIOS to change

Depending on the manufacturer, the BIOS looks slightly different, so the layout of the menu can differ slightly from the description.
  • After the PC startup, you must press depending on the manufacturer, the keys "F2", "F8", "F10" or "DEL" to enter BIOS menu. Either try them all, or search on the Start screen after any Info.
  • You are now in the BIOS, click on the right arrow button to reach on your keyboard to the tab "Boot". You can open it with "Enter".
  • Here you can select the item "Boot Device Priority" by pressing "Enter".
  • Here you can see "1st", "2nd" and "3rd" Boot Device. With the up and down arrow keys you can jump between the individual points back and forth and Enter between the hard disk (Hard Drive), the CD-run factory (CD-ROM) and a floppy disk drive select (Floppy Drive). The latter exists only in older computers.
  • You want to start, for Example, your PC with a CD or DVD, so you need to set the drive as the "1st Boot Device". There should be no CD in the drive, boot up the PC automatically from the "2nd Boot Device". Depending on the specified order, for example, your system hard disk.
  • You can then exit the BIOS by pressing two times the "Esc" key and your settings, then "Enter" to save.
