Which cable for DVB-C you need to pay attention to
Coaxial cable for the cable channels from the basic structure with the cables for the SATELLITE channels is identical. There are however, a few things:
- Both cable types are coaxial set up. This means that there is an inner conductor in the center of the cable and an outer conductor extending around the inner conductor around.
- The differences are mainly in the goodness/quality of the cable and the connectors.
- Stripping for the cable channels attenuate the influence of disturbances, usually with approximately 85 dB. In addition, the cable attenuates the signal even at 100m to ca 50dB (at about 2GHz). For DVB-C, these values are sufficient.
- Cable for the SATELLITE channels have higher quality requirements. The screening is usually 120 dB, and the Signal is only attenuated by approximately 25db at 100m. In addition, these cables have a plug with threads and are thus not directly compatible.
- Common to both types of cable have a characteristic impedance of 75 Ohms. This corresponds to the input resistance of the connected devices. There are variations in this value, it came to reflections on the cable and thus to noise in the image.
- To these deviations of the cable are identical. A SATELLITE cable can be converted with the appropriate connectors in an excellent cable for the cable channels. The other way around, however, it is not useful. When buying, make sure whether the plug-in for cable TV, are advertised.
- A shielding rating of 120 dB is for cable TV not absolutely necessary, but is also not harmful, as long as the price is true for money.
