With modern Smart TVs, you can play mostly video files in the MKV Format. As they succeed, we will show you here:
MKV files via USB on the TV to play
First make sure, if your TV has a USB port, and whether your model for a MKV playback is. You can find this information, for example, in the manual or on the manufacturer's website.
You will have to copy the MKV file to a USB Stick or an external hard drive with USB connection.
Connect the USB disk to your TV and start it up.
Navigate to the device in your TV menu to play from your USB. In the case of most manufacturers, the works by select device in your USB in an input list or first the TV internal Mediaplayer start, and then to the MKV file to navigate and play.

MKV playback with Blu-ray Player
Some manufacturers do not support the playback of MKV directly to the TV unfortunately. In such a case, you can use the detour via a second device: your DVD or Blu-ray Player with a USB port.
Connect your USB data carrier with the corresponding socket on the Player and start it.
To play, you enter for most manufacturers either Player's main menu or a media player App in the device. There, select the MKV file and play it.
MKV streaming to the TV
If your Hardware allows it, you can stream your MKV file from a streaming-capable device to the TV.
Provided your TV supports Streaming over your home network, you can access it in the majority of cases, via a DLNA connection to media content on your PC. How to use the, for example, under Windows 7, we will show you in this practical tip.
If all these solutions do not help, you can connect in this last Option, a PC or Laptop to your TV to enjoy your MKV file on your TV.
To do so, connect a PC or Laptop with a HDMI cable to your TV and start both devices.
Normally, the connection from your PC is automatically detected and duplicates, your Desktop on your TV. If this is not done, you can enable the output in your graphics card settings.
Restart your computer, the MKV playback.
You can convert the MKV file also. How to do this, we will show you in this practical tip.
If you download MKV video files off the internet you'll likely find the video plays back fine on your smart TV but there's no sound. Simply download the free (and safe) program Avidemux to convert the MKV audio into AC3 (lav) and away you go, no problems.
