In this practical tip we will explain how you can update Ubuntu Java. Update notifications, you will obtain it under Linux. Therefore, you need to first check your Java Version.

Open a Terminal window and type "java-version".
  • Compare the information with the current Java Version.
  • If your Version is out of date, you can start an Update.

Java update under Ubuntu

To perform the Update, open first Terminal window.
  1. Type the following command without quotes "sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/java".
  2. Then you run "sudo apt-get update" and get the Installer via "sudo apt-get install oracle-java8-installer".
  3. In the Terminal, then confirm with the Enter key, as soon as a "" is displayed on the screen.
  4. Then confirm the license agreement to start the Installation. This process takes a while.
