NAS as Media Server - HOWTO
Almost all NAS systems with a Feature called DLNA media server. So all compatible devices can access the network easily on your content. This function must be activated in the majority of cases only:
- You can open the user interface of your NAS in the Browser and go into settings. You should see a menu item "DLNA" or "media" type. This you need to enable. For more information, refer to the instruction manual of your NAS system.
- Then you need to select which folders you are allowed to via DLNA streaming. This happens mostly in the area of "free gifts". Also here it is recommended, in case of ambiguities in the instructions for use read. Now the setup on the NAS is ready.
- Now you need to on the playback on the DLNA device, select share. On a Windows machine, you will find this in the Explorer under "network".
- If you want to access with a Smart TV to your content that goes with the "Own content". On some devices the Feature is called "DLNA" or "media Server".
- If your device does not support DLNA, you can access the NAS using protocols such as SMB. Some Android Apps use this method to communicate with the network save.
