Exclamation marks instead of photos - possible reasons
An exclamation mark instead of the photo in iPhoto means that the link to the photo is missing. This can have various reasons. Keep in mind that the images in iPhoto are only a preview (i.e., small copies of the images) and the actual images are in a different file location.
- Select the photo and select "file"->"In the Finder"->"original file". Perhaps you have moved the original image only. A possibility is also that you have deleted in the sub-folder of iPhoto something iPhoto got messed up.
- Have you deleted photos in the Finder? You can then try to get the photos back from the trash, and move to the original location. The exclamation mark should disappear and the connection to the respective photo via iPhoto again.
- Maybe the photos are stored externally, e.g. on a separate hard drive that is not currently connected. The exclamation mark indicates that there is no active connection to the location of your respective photos.
